Easy To Find Rolls Royce Kits
Permalink

Well, 'easy-ish' at least.

I can only vouch for the Milicast one. The kit has been simplified since Peter's review, and is much improved and comes with some flimsies.

I found seven easy-to-find kits, available from:

Cromwell Models
http://www.xs4all.nl/~cromwell/B50-1.jpg

Gramodels
http://www.gramodels.co.uk/4mm_kits.php

Matador Models
http://www.matadormodels.co.uk/mat_pics/76B15_RollsRoyce1920pattern%20AC.jpg

Milicast
http://www.milicast.com/shop/product.php?productid=197&cat=0&page=1

NRC (I think 7th company deal with NRC)
http://henk.fox3000.com/rr.htm

Reviresco (a plethora of variants available)
http://www.tin-soldier.com/sg/afvkit2.htm

SHQ
http://www.mm.ecodes.co.uk/html/shq_miniatures.html

Just in case you like Rolls Royce armoured cars!

The only WW1 versions available are from Reviresco. The others need some tinkery.

Just found another 'easy to get' kit of the Rolls Royce armoured car.

This one is by Frontline Wargaming, and even in the best picture they could post it looks, well, er, sort of...

http://www.frontlinewargaming.co.uk/photos/20/BRT20.jpg

Well, at least it only costs 4.50 GBP (about 6 USD as I write, and probably less by the time you finish reading this!)

It would need a little bit of work (!) to make it look like a WW1 car.

It is available from Frontline at

http://www.frontlinewargaming.co.uk/

So, which one of these kits do you like the most? For me, it is still the Milicast one.

http://www.rapid-fire.uk.com/images/ready_to_rolls/rollsroyce_turret.jpg

I think its the best of the wargames variants... I dont like metal much otherewise Id probarbly go for the Reviresco models.... all in all as you say Milicast take the prize for best model...

Cheers

Thanks, Ironsides.

They look rather good for 'wargame' figures, and reasonably priced. I'd say they could compete with Reviresco for quality (just my opinion).

I'm building presently a Rolls Royce from Scale Link (http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Vehicles___Scale_1_76__OO_.html) which isn't too bad. To turn it into a 1914 version, I'm changing the wheels with a custom made PE set with spokes. It's going to be the RNAS version in naval grey.

all the best,
Michel.

I am pretty sure that the braille scale Rolls Royce that Scalelink sell, is the Matador Models one.

They also sell a 1/32 one (well, two actually)http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Vehicles___Artillery.html

I am excited by your custom made photo etch; any chance it could be sold along with some decals?

Hi Phil,

Not sure if Matador and Scale Link are the same models; the Scale Link model is in white metal, whereas Matador is mostly resin. Nevertheless, I'll take your word for it.
I had the photo etchings made by Grigorov, based on the wheels of Retrokit's Sava. I do have a lot of these wheels but am not planning to sell them, though I think I can spare some. If you come to Trucks 'n Tracks (I'll be doing a workshop there on decals), we can work things out.
Decals for the Rolls Royce are as from now on sale through my website www.blackliondecals.nl, but I'll make a separate posting on my latest WW-1 releases.

all the best,
Michel.

Michel, that is very kind of you!

Unfortunately I have no idea where in the world I will be at the end of February! But if I am in England I will try to come along.

Just out of curiosity, and not to put any pressure on at all, but have you ever considered the idea of Black Lion Decals selling PE stuff?

I back-dated Milicast's Rolls Royce a couple of years ago and had the devil of a time getting the wheels right! I used a PE fret from Scalelink for the spokes, and drilled out some shirt buttons for the tyres! I am sure no-one else has tried to drill buttons, so you can take my word that it is not much fun!

Somewhere on this forum in another thread like this one, about RRs, a member mentions they used the wheels from an aircraft kit. I don't know if the plane had six wheels (or eight if you put two spare wheels on the side of the Rolls Royce!) but after canibalisation (?) like that, it certainly had none!

Phil,

Interesting thought to start selling PE sets; I have the means to design them and the contacts to have them produced. I only don't have the faintest idea what sort of PE sets I'd have to issue...

For the RR wheels, I'll be using the SAVA wheels, which are approximately the same size. They're probably not 100 % correct, but I'll settle for them and they're much better than Reviresco's spoked wheels or airplane wheels.

all the best,
Michel.

Hi Michel, great decals by the way, dare I say it..A PE Wire wheels conversion kit for RR Cars, seems be what many are after its certainly a problem that takes a good deal to overcome and with the number of models about should be popular...

Cheers

OK, well worth considering. I'll sort things out with all those involved and will keep you all posted.

Just found another kit, from BP Cast,

http://www.rlbps.com/RLBPBP.htm

number BR109 is the 1914 pattern, and BR110 is the 1940 version. If I'm reading it right, these are 20mm scale, and priced in US dollars.

And another from Raventhorpe Miniatures,

http://www.rlbps.com/RLBPRav.htm#Itcam

numbers BV11 and BV12. Twice the price of the BP Cast ones. But, hey, its a Roller!

I was alerted to this by a discussion on the HaT forum.

Solfig (the former French part of Retrokit) is now issuing three versions of the 1914 RR; the standard model, the command model with higher turret and the Mid-East version with open turret.

Here's a photo of my own model: the old Scale Link model with PE spoked wheels.

Michel.

Thanks for the 'heads up' Michel.

Tracks n Troops have them for sale

http://tracks-n-troops.com/shop/images/retrokit/R72112.jpg

http://tracks-n-troops.com/shop/images/retrokit/R72113.jpg

http://tracks-n-troops.com/shop/images/retrokit/R72114.jpg

at 23.50 euros each.

And I see that a company called Black Lion Decals makes a set of decals for WW1 British and Belgian Armoured Cars and Trucks that includes markings for a 1914 Rolls Royce

Those Retrokit Roller's look really nice, I tried building the Reviresco one, ended up as a disaster! I thought the higher turret wasn't just for command Rollers, but all of the ones used on the western front in 1917?

Judging by this pic, it would seem that SHQ's Rolls Royce does not have any rivets:

At least half of the body and the turret are already done! Please please please do a Uralite coated version with optional cupola. And openable radiator doors/visor!
