Following on from the small naval gun located in Cairns I post another naval gun located at a Naval base in Victoria - HMAS Cerebus. The turret was found buried in a quarry in Mount Eliza and was restored with this gun. I'm not sure of the history and specifications of the gun itself - can anyone help?
It looks very purposeful and powerful.

it looks like a BL Mk VII 6 inch Naval gun - these were a fairly standard gun in Royal Navy ships from 1899 onwards. The turret reminds me of the gun shields on the 6 inch guns at Fort Nepean at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. The last of the 6 inch guns was removed from Fort Nepean in 1940.
