Emhar Mk IV Female
Permalink

This is the first kit i've got to the painting stage in about six years, and happy with how it's come out so far. It's the Emhar Mk IV Female, nowhere near completion as it has a fascine and the unditching beam to be added later. Being built for my girlfriend who is currently researching the Battle of Cambrai

Any comments, criticism etc i'd be glad to hear - still a bit of wet mud on the unditching rail when I took the photographs

Been a busy night.... the mud still wasn't dry when I took the photographs to that (hopefully!) explains for the funny colours and shininess. If the transfer on the cab roof stays shiny, no problem because it'll be hidden by the fascine anyway

Attempted to do the armour on the rear - not as spot on as I hoped

Looks good, Rob. What paint did you use?

I shelved my Mark IV project. I was being really picky, and trying to correct everything. Then I got annoyed with Emhar for making a kit with so many faults!

I used Humbrol khaki drab no 26 acrylic mostly - it's the first time i've used that colour, or acrylic paints at all, and i'm really pleased with the outcome, and much prefer using acrylic over enamel paints. The tracks were done with Humbrol 27 sea grey just to make them more matt than the kit's tracks, but then coated with the Tamiya mud stick and also the mud in the Tamiya weathering set A, which are both superb.

Wasn't too happy with the kit myself - the tracks were a pain to glue, as can be seen in the photos the right hand side track is coming up again at the rear, and because of the amount of glue I had to use to get them to stay in the first place the rear of the tank has become a bit of a mess, hence covering it up in mud!

The unditching beam rail was a real pain as well, not least because on one side the longest part snapped in half when removing it from the sprue (which in the end actually aided in building it) - again, i'm hoping liberal application of mud and also the unditching beam from Matador will help hide it. Looking forward to building a couple of Mk II's (or maybe even a I depending on the Airfix female comes out, or if I splash out on the Matador conversion) after this, lack of unditching beam is proving a great attraction

I agree!  What's up with that?  These could've been beautiful kits as it is they're soft on detail and heavy on poor fit.

However, nice job on FLIRT II!  I like it very much.
