I know the Emhar Mk IV can be back dated to a Mk II or Mk III but is it possible to go as far back as a Mk I for a supply tank. I have the Airfix kit but I like the tracks in the Emhar kit better since you can glue them on.
It would be easier to convert it to a Mk IV supply. In order to make a Mk I supply tank , you would need to:
1) Build supply sponsons from scratch to get a Mk I supply tank.
2) Alter the forward MG port.
3) Remove and fill in the top body hatch and relocate and rebuild it as a circular hatch closer to the front.
4) Rebuild the cab to the wider Mk I type and install a cab roof hatch.
5) Alter the track tensioning apertures to the round bottomed type.
6) Remove the locating lugs for the fuel tank and re-rivet part of the rear plate.
7) Remove the odd hatches at the rear of the roof as well as the longitudinal strip in the panel ahead of those hatches.
8) Build a stores box for the roof. This differed from the Mk IV stores box.
9) Build a stores box for the rear of the tank.
There are probably fixes I've missed but those are the main ones I can remember off the top of my head. Converting the Emhar Mk IV to a Mk III male or Mk II male or female would also involve 1, 2, 6, & 7 of the above steps. And you would need the longer 6 pounders for the males - the shorter ones were only fitted to the Mk IV onwards.
All in all, you'd be better off with the Airfix male to make a Mk I supply tank. And some of the above mentioned fixes (3, 4, 5, 7, 8, & 9) would also apply to the Airfix tank. The easiest conversion is to the Mk II supply tank. All the parts are there and all you need to do is fill in the sponson aperture and build stores boxes for the roof and rear.
