Sunday, Feb 28th; Military Book Fair at Imperial War Museum North, Manchester, 10am-4.30pm. Traders have come from Surrey, Darlington, Germany, to name but a few.
I got there at about 1pm, to be told that the fire alarm had gone off at midday and couldn't be reset. There was no fire. Punters had been evacuated into car park and told it might be an hour before they can be readmitted. Since it is a very cold day, punters eventually drift off, and new arrivals are turned away. I went to see a friend not far away and returned at 2.00pm.
2.15pm Alarm is reset and doors open. Two of us go into the Book Fair to find all traders packing up to go home. Caught a glimpse of some interesting-looking WWI books, but very displeased traders only wanted to put them all in boxes and clear off. End of Book Fair.

Sorry, that seems like a personal catharsis. The point I should have made was that I glimpsed Tanks and Trenches and Tank Battles of WWI amongst the books being stowed away in plastic crates, so there might have been some stuff of interest for Landships amongst the rest, but the traders weren't interested in letting anyone browse. They were all in a state of extreme fedupness. There was a lot of WWI stuff so there could have been something really worth investing in.
And then Manchester United won.

Well I could express sympathy but that would just be crocodile tears!
If the poor soul is really a "city" fan (I see them on the tele but have yet to met such a mythical suffering individual) then he should be jumping around as they beat Chelsea at 'the bridge' for the 1st time in 17 years!
In your location you are unlikely to meet a MCFC fan. The best place to find them is Manchester. However, since you are 12,000 miles away there will be no problem in meeting Manyoo fans. They will be everywhere you turn. The same applies in China, Malta, Cornwall, Milton Keynes, Dublin, etc. Some have even been to the stadium to watch a match. But the vast majority are to be found in London.
The IWM North is, unfortunately, only a few hundred yards from That Other Team's ground, also known as The Swamp, The Death Star, Mordor, etc.

Aargh. I picked up a leaflet that had details of another couple of forthcoming fairs, but they were both in MUFC territory, i.e. down south. The recycling wagon took it away on Friday.
However, I got to hear about the ill-fated one by snail mail courtesy of Morten's, since I'm on their mailing list. They haven't embraced the new technology and don't do an email newsletter, just an old-fashioned booklet, but they have got an email address. See below.
Whether the disgruntled dealers will consider using the IWM again in the near future is another matter. There used to be an annual book/modelling/gaming fair called Ceasefire in Urmston, only 3 or 4 miles from the IWM (I picked up A New Excalibur hardback for £10 there) but it was discontinued a couple of years ago, apparently because of poor attendance. It was always packed when I went.

Well my football fan personna has always beenmore than a little schizophrenic. Way back when I were no'but a nipper I were a Leeds United Fan. Still am all said & done but thanks to the 9th circle of hell escapee Mr Bates were languishing in close to outer darkness. With no coverage of the lesser divisionsdown here I have had to substitute Blackburn Rovers (at least they have the NZ national Team Captain playing for them). Then when we strted to get regular TV coverage - I ran across The Red Gods of Football of MU - Stuart Pierson, Jo Jordan & the mighty midgets. The MU back in the days of "Footballs most successful failure of a Manager" to recall a most cruel quote! That's a price I will have to pay some day - supporting both Yorkshire & Lanchashire Teams!
Now I have been to matches at both Old Trafford & Eland Road, must admit that I have spent longer at Old Trafford watching Cricket than football!
