Hi Aleksandr, Bovington Tank Museum is in Dorset around 100+ miles from London so difficult to get too, probarbly you'd need a car... however there is always the Imperial War Museum..
From Wool station to Bovington Tank Museum is about 2 miles. There may be a local bus from the station, but I cannot decipher the local bus company's helpful guide! There may be taxis, but I seem to remember the station as being tiny, so maybe not.
Google maps will be very useful to you. If I was doing it, I would start walking and hope that a bus comes along!
The beach, nearby, is rich in fossils. If you like that sort of thing (I do).
Maybe if you divert to Weymouth station, you can get the bus from there. The annoying thing being, that I visited a few years back and remember nothing! Lucky you if you get to go there.
As it's near a military base (Bovington, oddly enough!) Wool is fairly likely to have taxis, or at least taxis nearby. I looked at going from London Waterloo, it's around two and a half hours, occasionally going up to 2 hours 54minutes (on the return). Worth it though, once did a ten hour round car trip to get there and was worth the sleepless night before!
It's only 2 miles from Wool Station to the Museum, so a taxi won't break the bank. On occasion, if the weather has been good I've walked it.
There is a bus service - one in the morning, returning in the afternoon, and only on schooldays! Even better; because the school is in Wool, the bus goes from Bov to Wool in the morning and vice versa in the evening (well, 3.30pm). Exactly the opposite of what a visitor to the Museum needs. Fantastic.
There's a local ring-and-ride bus service, but it doesn't stop at bus stops. You have to live locally in order to use it.
Welcome to rural England. What about hiring a bike and taking it on the train?

There is a lot to see in the museum so give yourself plenty of time. But if you start your train journey before 9:30 it will be very expensive; it is much cheaper after 9:30.
Hope you have a happy trip!

As someone who doesn't drive (no, honestly!) I can assure you that it is easy to pick up taxis at Wool station. Even if there isn't one there by some chance there is a public phone box (if you don't have a mobile). Buses also leave from Wool station but are infrequent and times of trains and buses are unlikely to coincide. (You can also pick up buses just over the railway line opposite the petrol station). There's a bus back at 3:45pm or 6:20pm. Service number 108. You can plan your journey using www.travelinesw.com.
Actually, on a nice day when you have time the walk is quite pleasant. It is something I like to do. From the station cross the railway and walk (approx) north past the petrol station on the right hand side. Cross the road and walk up the old road, and over the old bridge past Woolbridge Manor. Continue on the modern road now walking in an approximately westerly direction. The road goes down in a dip and then back up swinging to the left as you pass a school on the right hand side. Continue on this road and you'll come to Bovington Camp. The Museum is unmissable, in more ways than one.
Incidentally, on the subject of taxis, some years ago I was walking this stretch but was in a bit of a hurry, so tried thumbing lifts. I was picked up by a taxi and that's the only time I've had a free ride in a taxi.
Don't travel to Weymouth as someone suggested. This will waste time and it's a long way past the Museum. Also a bus from Weymouth back to Bovington will take an age and you may have to change at Wool or Dorchester anyway.
Hope you get there Aleksandr, if not this time then on another occasion.
Well done, Aleksandr. Hope you enjoyed your visit and our English hospitality, such as it is. Look forward to hearing about your experiences.
