Finally completed this for the better half - unfortunately the Matador Models fascine isn't available again until July, so decided to make my own - using twigs from the garden cut down to size, tied together with string, coated in glue, then the string removed and chain (from Scalelink) put around and glued. As the fascines were rolled in mud before being fixed to the tanks, I coated the fascine with mud from one of the Tamiya modelling sets before letting it dry then placing it on top of the Tank - at the moment it's loose
Hi Chris, I hadn't seen that image, thanks for that. The obvious mistake is that the Tank should have Lewis guns instead of the Hotchkiss, but didn't realise that until after the build - as well as needing the spudded tracks too. I'm currently considering making a batch of 'spuds' out of plasticard for various other projects, as the Matador ones also won't be available until July, and I need them for my Mk II project.
For the colours, I painted the Tank in Humbrol no 26 Khaki acrylic, which is a really superb colour and i'll be using it for any future Tanks I build from the Mk II onwards. The tracks weren't painted at all.
The unditching beam is also No 26, with No 27 sea grey metal ends, along with the chains both on the beam and seperate, however the seperate ones are covered by the scale chain I bought for the log, and I put a bit left over on the top for added effect.
Machine guns were just a light brushing over with Humbrol 33 black
The mud is a combination of the Tamiya 'mud stick' which is a brilliant tool, and very easy and fun to use, and the Tamiya weathering master set A (sand, light sand, mud) which again is easy to use and causes a great effect. The fascine, for example, was the weathering set's mud, with water, and brushed on using the small application stick with a shaped sponge at one end and brush at the other. Aside from parts of the cab, sponsons and a strip down the roof, most of the original khaki paint is covered in various combinations of mud stick, mud, and sand
