Please Help Identify this Gun
Permalink

Hello,

In my work for the Texas Historical Commission I come across a number of WWI-era guns displayed on courthouse squares and at veteran's halls that have no accompaning identification.  This is such a piece:

l074.jpg

l089.jpg

These photos were sent to me by a co-worker who did not copy down any markings, so it is all that I have to work with, however I feel confident the folks here will be able to make the identification based on these photos.

Thank you in advance for your help!

MarkV

Vevilos,

I think that you are right.  At least the photos I find online look very similar to me.

Thank you!

Almost certainly a 37mm Type 94 or Type 1 anti-tank gun. (The Type 1 had a longer barrel L/50 rather than L/46). These guns were used extensively by the IJA as mountain guns because they could be broken down into into man-portable sections.
This one is a bit unusual because it has got wooden wheels rather than the steel disk wheels seen on many Type 94s.

The attached image is a Type 94 at Atherton in Queensland

Regards,

Charlie
