Making Rivets question.

Right, you know how they say that you can make rivets by heating the end of a plasic rod, then dabbing it on? How do you heat it?  boo.gif  Because I've tried it with a candle, and it just melts and dries instantly.
Please help.

The rivets I have made using stretched sprue weren't dabbed on. You get the stretched sprue, hold the end close (but not too close) to a candle flame and let the end mushroom. Too long near the flame and you get a large rivet that is more suitable for 1:35 scale. Then you can either slice the end off and attach using model cement or (my preferred way) drill a hole and insert the unstretched end into the hole, push down until the rivet sits at the correct height and cement from the underside.
The only way I know of dabbing rivets on is by using PVA glue for the rivets.

As I do alot of work with Evergreen Steyrene Rod & am a bit of a horder (I found off cuts useful for all sorts of odd small shapes & parts) I started retaining the trimings from other work. A slice (thin of the right diameter rod looks fine! I dab some gel glue in to place, drop the slice on to it & prod with a clen pin point to position. The only trick is remembering to keep the pin point clean & dry (one of the best ways, oddly, is to immediately dip in water then wipe on a rag).

Regards, Brennan
