Sponson Correction is finished
Permalink

I have applied the Archer Surface Details rivets and the pistol port covers as well. I had to add about .020 strip styrene to the front post on the gun opening to have enough surface to drill the vision port. It is not perfect but it is much more accurate then the original kit parts. I will do the right side next and document it as well. The left side was the most time consuming since there was so little accurate drawings available. I hope you have enjoyed it so far and if you can measure you can do the same thing as I did and I am certain much better.

Thank you for leading us through your great build. I'm thoroughly fascinated and impressed by the clarity of the explanations and the quality of the result.
Do you intend to produce an RTV rubber mould from which to make resin casts?
You could book me down for half a dozen sets right away!

Hi Jellytwig. Thank you very much for the kind words and encouragement I really do appreciate it. I wish I could make them for everyone but I don't have the skill for production casting. My goal is to encourage modelers to try this for themselves. My intent is to teach everyone  the method I used and to take some of the mystery out of scratch building small parts and doing corrections.  I am also doing this so you don't have to buy a resin kit which will increase the cost of the kit even more. Plastic tubing and sheet plastic are very cheap compared to a resin part. Do not get me wrong I love resin kits but it is a lot more fun to know you did the work and not someone else. All you need is patience and common modeling tools. I have tried to do these post with enough measurments so you do not need a drawing. It is nice to have one but it is not necessary. I will make sure to convert everthing to milimeters but if I don't just ask and I will edit my post. These are the tools I used: Razor Saw, a # 11 X-acto blade and handle, a set of house hold drills, the bigger the set the better the selection. The most exotic thing I used was a angle finder and my PC scanner to scale down the Tank Museum drawings but the scanner is not really needed. When I do the right side(Starboard) I will show my tools and I will try to do a little more cutting on camera to give you a better idea of what I am doing. Now go out there and get some sheet plastic, tubing and the Emhar Mk IV and start cutting some plastic. And make sure you post it on this site so you can show off your work. If all goes well I will scratch build the tracks too. At this point I want to make it Sir Reginald but that too could change. Thanks again and I will be posting some more photos soon, so stay tuned to this channel. And one last thing, feel free to contact me through the site or email for questions.
