Colour of Austro-Hungarian artillery in 1914
Permalink

I can't find this via the search engine, but apologies if this has been asked before. Does anyone know when the Austro-Hungarian army ceased to paint its gun carriages the sort of ochre used in the early nineteenth century? And what colour their artillery pieces were in 1914?

This

is a good start, but as the article says little is known until now.

As I know the 19th century guns were painted in 'yellow' or just combination of some polish to a natural wood giving the 'yellow ochre' effect.
I presume that with the metal made carriages it changed to gray-blue color of a sort with wheels remaining in natural wood color.  I have some late 19th century picks where transition of 'yellow' to gray-blue is evident.
Maybe the old guns were gray-blue in shade. But in WW1 there were 2 dominant colors - 'ochre-brown' and 'olive green'...
No further data - sorry!
