I think he must be French, Carl. I gather that Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, Romania, Greece, Japan, and even Italy only have sub-sections, compared to full treatments of GB, France, Russia, Germany, and USA.

yes, that's correct. There's a Military Uniforms of the 19th Century copy too. I am afraid the subject is too broad to cover it all, I do prefer books going in on one item. At the other hand, being an afficionado you just want to have every book, sometimes for just a few interesting pictures...
Your man with the bike on his back looks like a French Chasseur a Pied (I suppose that should be "a velo"). The book called "Nos Poilus de 14-18" has a photo in it that looks a lot like the illustration, although it's hard to be absolutely certain from the thumbnail above.
