Landships II

Hi Thomas, I have had the same trouble too but this is what I have been able to determine. The front of the rail could be attached to the cab either directly or using the camouflage net supports that were attached to the cab sides. There are also two vertical net supports halfway between the cab and the stowage box. On the real tank a angle iron shape was riveted on to the net support and the rail was attached to this brace. There are a few photos on the Landships II site that show this arrangement. From what I can see the rails were attached in different manners so it is possible to see different methods of attaching these rails. The most common arrangement I have seen is the rails angling up enough to clear the cab rear with the highest point at the net supports located on the hull top between the cab and the stowage box. From there it should angle down and clear the top of the box. Also make sure the rails are wide enough so the cupola hatch can open and clear the rail even if you do not plan to open it. Studying the Landships pictures and using the Osprey book on the Mk IV tank are a big help. George Bradford has a book in the AFV Plans series. It is 1914-1938 Armored Fighting Vehicles and contains Mk IV plans. While there are some questionable details the plans give a good idea of how the rails were attached. A detail is not yet very clear to me: how is the roof mounting fixed to the roof of the tank? Is there - for example - an angle iron on the roof with the mounting fixed to it?

Unfortunately I can't find a photograph anywhere which shows the roof of a Mk IV.

Thomas, the supports are riveted to the angle iron in front of the drivers hatch. There is a picture in the thread Lincoln Tanker linked to that shows how it was fitted.
EDIT: After getting some much needed sleep, I can see what I meant to say was the ROOF hatch.
