I have read a lot of postings on this forum and know there are some very knowledgeable contributors here.
So I have two questions. Well, ok. One is a question, one is a request.
Question: Das Ehrenbuch der Deutschen Schweren Artillerie shows that two units used the 42cm Dicke Bertha a.k.a Kurze Marine-Kanone 14 L/16. As a shoulder strap collector, I want to find the correct strap to display with the cartridge casing on my web site when I build the new "brass" section.
Das Ehrenbuch der Deutschen Schweren Artillerie shows that the Schwerste Steilfeuer Batteries used them. The wonderful narrative by Haptmann Becker on the web sadly does not say what unit he was with. Damn. And I cannot find his email.
I do not think that the columns under the Regiments on Das Ehrenbuch der Deutschen Schweren Artillerie dictate that Solf & Becker's Batteries were with Garde-Fußartillerie-Regt. Nr. 2 and Fußartillerie-Regt. von Linger (Ostpreußisches) Nr.1 (Königsberg i.Pr.). They are just placed underneath.
So the question (finally) is what did the 42cm Fußartillerie soldiers wear for shoulder straps??
And the request: Does anyone have any decent photos of a 42cm Dicke Bertha that I could use on my web site? (with full credit of course).
