I just wanted to say how disappointed I am with the Pegasus WW1 French. The poses looked great, and the set looked so promising. But having now got hold of a few boxes (as a wargamer I always buy in bulk!) I started to put my first infantry company (14 figures) together last night.
The first thing I noticed was the high "fiddle factor" involved in attaching the separate arms and weapons. Now I'm a patient and reasonable (in many senses of the word!) modeller but some of these figures almost reached the "throwing point" - my threshhold of when a model just won't go together as I want it to and it gains its own velocity across the modelling room! And having succeeded in putting them together some of them just don't look quite right.
They also look a bit small (only very slightly) compared to say some of the Revell figures. This isn't a problem as I can get over it when I base them but it's just a further irritation. And I'm a bit concerned on whether they'll withstand the hurly-burly of wargaming - although I do have some of the Pegasus WW2 Germans in Berlin and they have done very well on that score, so maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily. On the plus side, the Hotchkiss MMG is quite nice, and is properly strip fed unlike the Revell MMG which is shown as belt fed.
I know that Pegasus view their figures as primarily for modellers and dioramists (is that a word?) rather than wargamers, and I'm sure that for those of you of that persuasion these are just fine. But for me as a wargamer, on balance, I think I'll use the Pegasus MMGs but stick with my Revell figures (even with their small heads!) and pick up the odd box as I need them on good old ebay, supplemented with veterans from Airfix, VB rifle-grenadiers from IT Minatures and the excellent 37mm from Early War Minatures.
Anyone else have any views?
Cheers
Paul B

I have no problem with the figures' size at all, and am very happy with sculpting and anatomy. However I feel your pain about the figures being fiddly to put together. I could live with that, but like you I also find that some elements, like arms and hands/rifles, don't fit as good as the small attachment point would require. This glue
I thought it was only me that was disappointed with this set. I also found the assembly not as successful as I was expecting. I found it was rather a pain to assembly the figures. Needed rather alot of filler. However, the Hotchkiss heavy machine gun and the Chauchat lived up to their promise.
I had a similar problem with my first batch of five figures, but after that I got the hang of it and can put them together fairly quickly using a sharp blade and superglue.
The trick is to use the right weapon for each figure. Although many of the weapon/arm pieces look the same, there seems to be very slight differences between them and I find it's a good idea to dry fit several of them before picking the best fit.
The only problem I have is not being able to paint them as well as the ones on the box!
