Grenades to Identify

This picture isn't new, but I've never noticed the type of grenade before.

IIRC we established that the uniform is the top-of-the-range one designed for the Belgian Armoured Car Division in Russia. I'd assumed the grenades were German Stielhandgranate, but on closer inspection they are very different - much longer and slimmer, almost like the British Hale. Any ideas? Maybe Russian?

This is a terribly late reply, but I do seem to remember seeing flares of a similar shape and size to what's shown in that photograph before.

Flares could make sense - a little battlefield illumination before romping around in your armoured car harassing the enemy. What would an A/C man want with so many grenades?

Not convinced about flares. They seem to have a sort of plunger detonator.

Perhaps you're right - pull out a safety pin (the little white ribbon?), whack it on the end, then hurl.
