Hey guys, it's been ages since I posted here. I'm still dreaming and scheming of building the ultimate Whippet in 1/35th scale and not getting anywhere.
I recently saw this and it REALLY fired my imagination...
(tracks and running gear about halfway through the page)
...what if there was a detailed complete running gear for Mk IV (and other similar) tanks! Those tracks are so close and yet so far away. This does seem to be a loose copy of the Holt set-up doesn't it?
I want that sort of detail under the side skirts for my Whippet but making all those parts...UGH!
I've often wondered what other kits might have suitable detail to use as wheels etc for the Whippet/MkI-VI tanks. Possible some parts from a Churchill tank? Certainty parts from Accurate's Little Willie but just buying that kit as a donor would be money poorly spent. And I have to ask why didn't Accurate pursue that sort of detail on their Whippet kit???
Have you looked at the 'RC modelling in 1/35 etc' thread? BC312 has just posted that the Whippet was amongst the tanks he asked Friulmodels to measure up for tracks; if you email them, they might realise there's a demand and produce some.
That's an interesting idea TinCan. I do have Accurate and Model Cellar tracks. I used Panzer Shop tracks on my Mk.IV For me the tracks are just a small part, I want the wheels, tensioners (or whatever) and the return skids and all that too
It's not practicle but I still like dreaming. Who knows, as prolific as Trumpeter is, maybe they'll make some new kits...or maybe Wingnut will branch out and make some WW1 tanks and stuff!!!
