Lovely models. The pigeon van is rather an aquired taste as a subject, but beautifully built.

The horse ambulance isn't what I expected from the title - I thought it would be a horse-drawn ambulance (well, I suppose it is! ), but an ambulance for horses makes an interesting subject - well made too, with the exception of the driver; for my taste it would be better to have a figure with the clothes sculpted in, rather than Action Man-style mini clothes, which are a bit toy-like for such a nice model.

Yes TCT, dressed figures are a bit of a problem. But I do like to see a figure as it adds scale to the model, hopefully the pidgeon wagon will be painted next year.

Barry,  I have no information about Ambulance, wasn't aware of such a thing until I saw the model.

Been hunting for horse ambulance info for another thread, and found this photo on bbc website - a nice side view of a horse ambulance (horse-drawn) similar to the one modelled:

here

it's in the thumbnails below the poster.

Here's a BIG file of a horse ambulance, but slightly different from the model: http://www.yourhorse.co.uk/upload/29927/images/Blue%20Cross%20ambulance%20at%20work%20in%20France.jpg
Still, I like the Commercar ambulance best... this one is a sort of ungainly affair that surely doesn't look as a contrasting reality of the Great War as a motor vehicle tending wounded horses...

Here's another one: http://www.nam.ac.uk/microsites/war-horse/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/124089.jpg
of interest is the "camouflaged" horse... is that correct? Are there disruptive paint schemes for horses?

The 'yourhorse.co.uk' image is the same as the one I linked to at bbc.co.uk.

That's a weird scheme. It must indeed be something man-made, but why, who knows? Whatever it is, it's hard to tell whether the dark bit is painted on, or the light, or both.

Perhaps it's something a horseman did to proudly make his beast stand out?

I don't think it's paint, I think the horse has had the hair shaved on those parts

It looks more like a grease paint than being shaved to me - the contrast is very strong to be just shaving.

For all we know, it could be some sort of protection for the horse - from ticks or whatever, if it had already had problems.
