1/35th Schneider CA1
Permalink

Greetings one & all, Thought I'd post a few images of my latest project, It's the 1/35th resin Commanders Series Schneider CA1. The original images were sourced after doing a quick google search and are only included here for discussion purposes and to illustrate features I've tried to incorporate into my model. The model itself has features enabling either a late or early vehicle to be built, I wanted to go with a late cammo scheme so built it as such. The kit had some issues re quality of casting, but nothing that couldn't be overcome with a little use of thinned tamiya putty ie: rivets that weren't properly formed. There were a couple of smaller parts that I had to re make because it was easier to re make them rather than to straighten the resin parts.. but that's an ongoing issue relevant to any resin kit I guess & shouldn't deter anyone from obtaining this kit. I've read mixed comments regarding Commanders Series over simplification of suspension components and have to jump in and say that this isn't the case here, I found the kit supplied parts suitably complex and provided enough out of the box to produce a good representation of the real vehicle.
I used nothing more than scrap plastic and items from my spares box to stow the vehicle (I'm quite happy with the way the wicker baskets turned out). keen eyed observers will notice some irregularities between the built images and the final images, I just didn't like the look of the tools and bucket on the rear of the vehicle, so I left them off, likewise the pully arrangement for the signalling board was replaced with a more accurate version prior to painting, and finally, after the last photos were taken, I took a drill to the lamp and fitted an MV lens.
Originally I had intended to use three figures, wonderful new resin figures sourced from MasterClub in Russia, but the balance just didn't look right so one got deleted. All painting was done using tamiya acrylic paints and then various oils were used as washes and filters. No pigments have been used on either the model, figures or base, I wanted to avoid them and see if I could achieve a dusty worn look using paint effects only.
While I've declared this project finished and any suggestions for improvements are going to be hard to incorporate, I still encourage you to offer your thoughts, any comments, good bad or otherwise are eagerly sought so I can avoid repeating them in my next project, so please let rip.
If you've made it this far, thanks for reading... I hope you enjoy the following images.
Regards,
David Scorer.

Stunning. The dusty effect is superb, the earth of the diorama, the mud on the running gear - really lovely.

Bonjour David,

Belle maquette, but . . .  your Schneider is a Model 2. so,on rear tracks, the piece, in front the barbotin, is missing.

This piece was not on Schneider M1 and always on M2. The last roller is hidden by this piece on M2. (Look on your photo number 2).

Ace and group number are on the both side of the Schneider.

The tank's number (n° 61306) is painted in front the glacis (Look on your photo number 2).

This number is also paint on right from rear side of the chassis.

I agree that dusty effect is beautiful but the black line on camouflage are to big.

This tank was destroyed in June, 11 th 1918, north of Méry (Oise). The tank's commander was the S/Lt Tirat.

Bonne soirée - Michel

Excellent work David, apart from the black lines being too thick as Michel has also pointed out. I really like the look of the figures too
