In this old thread I said I'd post pictures of my broken Rolls Royce. Voilą!
I made the tyres out of shirt buttons, and the spokes are from a photoetch fret from Scale Link, code # SLC 106B. (A drilled out shirt button is on the left. I don't know why I have one left over.) I used a drill press/bench drill (US/UK) to drill out the buttons, and I got some funny looks off the Workshop Teacher.
I made 1914 Pattern covers for the radiator, but didn't convert the driver's vision flap. I don't know why. The rope is made from string, and looks awfully fluffy! Next time I'll use braided wire.
What can I say! It was a while back and maybe my skills are better now? Well, maybe.
The model met with a nasty accident whilst in transit somewhere between the UK and the US. This time it wasn't the cats!
I usually run string/thread through some acrylic varnish - wipe off the excess - seems to stick down the fuzzy bits.
Have used black cotton thread treated this way then wrapped into a bundle with more varnish to emulate steel towing cables. My argument from years working in heavy industry is that a steel rope which isn't black with grease is unsafe to use.
