Anyone going to Tankfest at Bovington next weekend? I'm there as 1917 Tank Corps crew with the 'War Horse' Mk IV Male Tank, there's also a French Berliet lorry and a 1916 Matchless motorcycle and sidecar with Vickers MG going, and a large number of British Infantry in my living history group (the Matchless is owned by one of the members), be good to see some of you there
I had an email from somewhere about this do. Didn't mention it because the message gave the impression it was strictly WWII. This is good news. The bad news is that I can't get there, but I'm sure you know where your duty lies, Rob.

Oh, dear. That makes you sound like J.F.C. Fuller.
I'm sure you misrepresent yourself.

Wow, what an absolutely fantastic weekend - the Mk IV replica is simply stunning, very impressed by it, especially how it even moves like the real thing too - and the original Lewis gun outer barrels too! Took video as well as photographs so will get them up - had another ride on the 1917 Matchless and Vickers combo, I didn't see the Berliet anyway though
Tremendous. I take it the tracks aren't totally authentic but some sort of continuous belt?

I wasn't able to tell, I believe it's based on a tracked excavator chassis - the track plates, as can be seen, are very authentic and the sound is brilliant. On the exterior, the only inaccuracy I could find is that the 6 pounders aren't rifled, apart from that the attention to detail is superb! It has the same inaccuracy that the Mk IV it is based on has, in that the two armoured plates at the back are missing, but aside from that spot on. Photos should be up tonight
What a fantastic show, and the WW1 display was quite moving as well as loud.
Sorry I didn't get round to saying hello to you Rob, I was with friends and never got back to the WW1 static display area.
The tank itself was very realistic and it was great to see it moving around the arena. It does indeed move just like the originals in the old movie reels. Personaly I would have liked to see a bit more exhaust smoke and hear a louder engine.... but then again I would, I'm not in the tank. :)
