Flimsies again
Permalink

I know this has come up before but I can't remember and can't find the information.

I know that flimsies came in three colours, red, black and ________ ?

What was in the flimsies: was red for petrol, black for water, and ________ for oil?

I know that often the colour code wasn't stuck to, because I have read accounts of men remarking their tea tasted of petrol.

And the tubs, or small cylindrical drums, (that can be seen on the roof of Creme de Menthe in the film "The Battles of the Somme and the Ancre") what did they carry, grease perhaps?

Please fill in the blanks if you can, and I'm more than happy to be corrected.

TIA
