There is a 15cm sFH02 howitzer at the Army Reserve Depot at Rockhampton. It's not easy to access because it's behind a security fence.

However, one of the intrepid gun hunters in Qld got access recently and sent me a bunch of images. �The howitzer was captured by

42nd Battalion AIF but there's no record of place/date of capture. The gun has serial #1090 with a build date of 1917. This is puzzling

since I would have thought manufacture of 15cm howitzers had long switched to the sFH 13.

In the images Michael took there are a few other markings - "597" on the trunnion cap and sight support, "330" on the front of the receiver.

The carriage also has the date "1906" stamped on it. Michael said there are registration marks on the join between the breech and barrel.

Does this indicate a remanufactured gun? if Ralph sees this does his 15cm sFH 02 built in 1917 have similar markings?

As you remember the second 15cm sFH 1902 I have also has a 1917 date:

The one you have found is likely a rebuilt howitzer on an older carriage. Everything in service would have gone through depot rebuilds up to the end of the war.�

Unfortunately, I am on the other end of the US from my howitzer right now and cannot check the carriage date. �I just do not remember if the howitzer's carriage is of pre-war manufacture or not.
