I have the 31/5 issue of Tankette with Arie Dijkhuis' great drawings, plus a few pics online. Looking for more detail pics, especially the gun.
Thank you. Lee
The french "obusiers de 400 mm Saint-Chamond" are of two models: -the "400 mm modèle 1915": these 8 howitzers were built from bore-out "340 mm modèle 1887" of the old decommissioned battleship "Brennus" (3 guns) and old coast-defence ships "Valmy" and "Jemmapes" (2 guns each) and 1 spare barrel. One other barrel was made for spare barrel of the 400 mm. -the "400 mm modèle 1916": these 4 howitzers were built new, using parts of barrels and breechs of guns of "340 mm modèle 1912" of new battleships in building. The internal rifling of the 12 Howitzers were the same and the ballistics were equal. In 1918, 8 Howitzers were used by french Army and 4 others by AEF (leased guns). Yours sincerely, Guy François.
I found "Les Canons de la Victoire 1914-1918 Tome 2 L'Artillerie Lourde à Grande Puissance". It took a long time to track down, even for the internet. I found it on a French website. I had a hell of a time ordering it; I could only translate the first page, and it is a site which requires registration to order. I finally got it done, though. I also want to track down "Eisenbahnartillerie", also by Gen. Guy François.
