I've uped my scale recently to 1:32 and have put the 1:285 stuff on hold for a while. I'm making 3 section models to show how trenches were constructed. I have 3 of them. 1 is an ideal trench, well built and with a large sump. 2 is a typical trench built with whatever the guys could get hold of and under shell fire, etc. 3 is a wet soil trench built mainly above ground level because of the drainage problems. I'm adding things like spades, boxes, tins and rubbish now. It's all scratch built apart from the etched parts.
Excellent work, it's nice to see the varying types against one another. Perhaps a fourth could be added, showing the muddy mess that was sometimes the reality?
Nice work, made sereral interlocking sections of german comms., trenches afew years ago in 1/35th scale, so you could make what you wanted inany shape!
Here's the 'Ideal' trench. I've added larger chalk lumps and flint, plus the tins and wiring equipment and rubbish. I'll add some figures eventually and one or two more bits.
The etched barbed wire and chicken wire are from Eduard (available from Hannants.) I made the posts from twisted copper wire. The etches are the only thing 'off the shelf' everything else is scratchbuilt from styrene, balsa wood and thin metal foil, etc.
I may do a German trench, but not in the near future. I'm considering a fortified shell hole.
