WW1 Map holder
Permalink

So I bought this map tube the other day in some antique shop
and it had a tag on it that said "WW1 Map Holder".  I'm not
sure how true that may be. I just bought it because I liked it,
but I was hoping someone could possibly verify whether it's
even from the time period. It looks old, smells old. I looked
on Google and couldn't find one like it.

The inside looks like carboard wrapped in a sort of canvas
with leather straps and end caps. It looks like it may have
been green at one point, but now it's faded everywhere
except under the cap. Any information would be awesome!
Thanks guys!

Well, it 'looks' right, the leather work looks similar to that i've seen on British items (the leather cap reminds me of the one on the 3 inch Stokes mortar actually). Is there any stamping anywhere? A broad 'crows foot' arrow would denote British

I looked over it a little bit and didnt really see any stamping, but
I was looking for writing, not so much an insignia. I'll have to look
again tonight. And yeah, I looked that up and you're right. It looks
a lot like it. I'll be checking for a "crows foot" or something out of
the ordinary. Thanks!

Yeah, I looked it all over and there definitely aren't
any visible markings on it.
