Take a look at this remote controlled demolition weapon from 1915. Apparently Schneider produced something similar called the Croccodile but as yet I have not tracked down any details.

It was intended to clear barbed wire entanglements and the like rather than personnel although if you happened to be manning a position close to the wire I imagine the distinction would be academic.
