My name is Tony and I am a documentary writer/producer from Brisbane Australia. For the past few years I have been working in association with Qld Museum to create a feature documentary on Mephisto, which as you all know is the last surviving A7V. So far I have interviewed the Director of Collections from IWM, the family of the AIF Officer who organised its salvage plus other experts who have written books from here in Australia.
Now we wish to film some re-enactments, license some rare footage and photos plus interview two experts in Germany and the Granddaughter of A7V designer Joseph Vollmer, whom you know has written a superb book on his life, to complete the film. This last interview I am told will be a world first but his story is as much one on automobile history/technology as it is on just the A7V.
To finance all of the above we are commencing a public/crowd funding campaign on June 1. Pledges start at $15 for postcards while other offers inclue the official 64 page Qld Museum Guide Book and up to DVDs sent to any destination in the world. This is a two month campaign and is all or nothing hence my timing of this forum piece.
I have a magazine article and pictures, the only photos while Mephisto was being conserved coming out in Contact Magazine coming out on June 1. You can get a free download of this issue at www.militarycontact.com plus Military History Magazine USA is also publishing the same article on July 1. Also I have added some IPhone footage of Mephisto onto my facebook site at http:/facebook.com/WaltzingMephisto
I would like to thank you all for your support of this project, even if that means you have just passed it onto other friends who might also have an interest in the A7V and other WW1 vehicles. As we head to the Centenary of WW1 I know this is a work that will have the interest of young and old and to answer the question, how the hell did this vehicle end up in Australia of all places!
I hope you enjoy the photo below, kind regards
Tony
