Mark IV Painting Experiment
Permalink

Hi all,

For a quick project I decided to test-paint an Emhar mark IV female based on pictures of Lodestar in Brussells as reference. Previous attempts always turned out too green or the brown too drab and uninteresting. To shake things up a bit this time I used some Games Workshop paints that I picked up last christmas.

After undercoating the model I added a basecoat of Rinox Hide.

Then I added a layer of a 50/50 mix of Rinox Hide and Skrag Brown. This was followed by drybrushing it with Vallejo model colour Khaki.

Does this seem like a reasonably close representation?

As it's just a matter of opinion, and it's opinion you're asking for, I'd say the paint looks great. It has (in my opinion) more depth to it than I've been able to achieve. I think I might be trying to copy your formula with my next batch of Mk IVs, if you don't mind.

(Now, the Hotchkiss MGs... Oh, you didn't want an opinion on those!)

What colour is your undercoat ? this may have an effect on the following coats as well. Looks great all the same

I see a good bit of orangey-ness in your base coat below the extensive weathering: good! Perhaps a bit lighter in shade for the base coat would be better still, but that's being picky.

Well done.

Hello Ian,

I have seen Lodestar III in Brussels with my own eyes, when I was allowed to make very detailed photographs of it, for my own project. The museum is very dark and the pictures on the net can be misleading.

However, If the colours on my screen are true, your paintwork matches it indeed very well.

Greetings!
