Hi, does anyone have any photos of the french version of the Renault Ft 17 engine showing in detail the wiring and tubing ? I am building a 1/16 kit with full interior but the models instructions do not give any indication of where the cables should be in the engine or drivers compartment.
Hi Paul, I have a couple of photos a restored FT in Switzerland. The restoration is very good but they only posted a couple of pics of it which is a pity as is seems to be accurate. Its the Takom kit I am building and the interior is nice but I get a bit nuts about having wiring etc in when Im building large scale interiors!! I would recommend the kit to anyone interested in WW1 tanks, I paid 64 from Lucky model in Hong Kong plus postage and its great value. The old eyes are not what they used to be so 1/16, 1/15 or 120mm scales suit me a bit better especially when it comes to photo etch!! I may have to see if any of the publications on sale (squadron etc) contain good pics of the engine and break out and buy one. If anyone has used any of the available books could they pass on relevant info. Thanks again for the interest, Steve.
The wiring on the FT was very limited. Since it had magneto ignition and was hand cranked to start about all the wiring was the HT leads from the magneto to the
spark plugs and the magneto earth wire which ran along the right side of the hull to the driver's panel to the kill switch. The WW1 FTs didn't have electric lighting
Public warning for writing "ft 17." First offence.
