Airfix today published its plans for next year, and surprise surprise both the civilian and military versions of the old bus in 1/32 are scheduled for release in 2014. Hopefully the military version will include the figures. I have one made up of the military version and converted others. Now I need room to display them.

The information is on www.airfix.com. There are also a couple of 1/72 WW1 gift sets in the programme - paints, trench section, and either sets of infantry (German vs French) or artillery (British vs German). The lack of the New Tooling marker suggests that they are old sets recycled. May be useful as pressies for the youngsters though ...

I presume the tanks are waiting till 2016.

Announced in the artillery set is british as well as german artillery.I don't recall airfix doing german artillery,so that must be something new!

Well spotted Matz! The FK 96 n. A. has been done by Emhar only so far, so maybe Airfix are acquiring some moulds now that Emhar's owner has deceased? Regards, Pat

You're right ,Ironsides!Airfix British infantry would have been a better match to the Pickelhauben of their 'First assault'set! But ,one can still use three figures :the officer, the walking wounded and the dead!smile

Should there be doubters of the kits accuracy and fidelity of detail, here's the bus built straight from the box.  To my mind, it is one of their best efforts and I've wondered for more than thirty years why they didn't follow with more items in 1/32 Great War.

would not expect to see much new stuff as I did hear they were moving back to UK. Certainly Humbrol paints have come back. Still I was told by their sales person not long before moving production away from UK that it was actually staying in the UK. Shows how little they know or how little you can trust some of these people. It didn't make sense to move out of the UK, as Dapol have proved with their UK production of old Airfix(and Kitmaster, a name they are now using) kits.

The moulds for the bus were getting a bit worn, hopefully they will have been repaired. It was a good model when introduced. I have also converted the fire-ngine into a basic WW1 lorry. Wonder if they could do something with that. In some ways its a pity it is 1/32 not 1/35, but with care the difference is not that noticeable. As I have often said, something is better than nothing.

Are you able to post a pic of your lorry conversion?  Personally, it would interest me a great deal.

much of my stuff is stored in attic, I will have a look to see if I can find items. The lorry conversion is basically replacement of area behind driver with a flat bed, I think. Its a while since I looked at it. Odd thing is , I recently found some drawings of a WW1 conversion and it was very similar. It would make a good model for Airfix to produce, as it uses much of the existing kit. This is the trick used by the Ukrainian model manufacturers such as Miniart, having several kits based on common parts.

I have also converted a bus to pigeon loft. Got the idea when I saw something similar using the 1/72 scale bus. Subsequently found photos of the real thing. Now I need a themed module to display them. For me one disadvantage of plastic kits is their ability to break if moved round too much.
