I recently started the Brach (ex Mr. Panzer) 1/72nd scale WWI Italian Lancia IZ armored car. When I first opened the box I was disappointed at the poor quality of the kit. However, I realize this is an older kit and the molds must be worn. Still, I decided to put the kit back on the shelf and work on other projects.
About a week ago I decided to take a second look at the kit. There were areas that I knew needed work but I set myself to it.
I shaved off and replaced all the rivets.
The rear of car had a nasty mold line that required filling and sanding. I replaced the rivets and other details.
The rear fenders also needed work. I am not sure if I took too much material off when I cut them from the runners. However, the bottoms need to be horizontal. I used strip styrene to repair them.
I replaced the machine guns because the parts had mold shift - sanding would destroy their shape
The most important part that needed replacing were the wire cutters. In one of the attached photos you can see the kit supplied parts. I made the replace parts from brass and flattened solder. Not perfect but it looks much better than the original.
