Hi gang!


 Can any member help please in regard to plans/layouts/diagrams, etc of british 1stww period lorries?  Reason i ask, is that i intend to start a project in regard to building a replica lorry!


Any help/pointers, would be very greatly appreciated!

Hi tim!


Damn right it's a good name - LOL!!


Many thanx tim, it's greatly appreciated - haven't decided which one to go for yet, but it'll be a standard 3 tonne lorry that was in use from 1914 to 1918.  Had a quick look on ebay in regards to parts, and i've seen a couple of ford transit chassis's and the back wooden body off a bedford RL - it's just getting everything else!!!


Had a look through shedloads of photies, so the canvas cover looks pretty straight forward, and as for the grab rope in the back of the truck, i'm pretty sure my local TA unit can get one for me from one of their trucks - he he!

many thanx indeed, they're ideal for starting!  I'll speak to a mechanic friend of mine to see how i would go around getting them drawn up to a 1/1 scale.  Have started looking thru military vehicle magazines for the various clubs and am hoping that they may be able to point me in the right direction in regards to parts!

Hi Robert!


Thanx for your reply, do you per chance have these magazines/books yourself, as i would be quite happy to pay for any photocopying.  I contacted a chap who is rebuilding an original 1918 built dennis 3 tonne lorry, and he's advised me to steer clear of getting a replica made, and to try and go for a 'ground-up' rebuild of an original. He reckons that it could be in the range of £5,000 to £30,000!  A set of the rubber tyres alone for the dennis lorry would be about £3,000!


If i'm still interested, then he'll keep an ear on the ground for me to source a 'wreck'.  I've seen a few model T fords, and the only lorries i've seen are in museums. I don't want a big lorry such as the J-type, just a small one!
