Question : How were French cavalry employed in WW1?
Answer: Mostly riding backwards and forwards, wearing out the horses to no purpose. There was a discussion on the subject at the HäT forum when their masters appeared. It was felt that the poses were far too animated for historical realism. These are much more like it.
The swankiest French cavalry of all, the Cuirassiers, eventually suffered the ignominy of having their horses (and cuirasses and helmets) removed and being lumped in with the Infantry. Not even Mounted Infantry, just PBI.
