Museum Men TV Show - Building a WWI Tank
Permalink

Did anyone watch this program on Saturday evening?

http://www.history.com/shows/museum-men/videos/first-wwi-tank

I am not a WWI tank expert and wonder what the members of this forum think about the program.  Thoughts?

Regards, Marc

The first thing to note is that the tank was not built at full scale. And they modeled part of the interior.

Looks rather crude, and the track tensioning gear is about as wrong as it could possibly be. Glad I missed it - the FA Cup was terrific!

It's rather a mish-mash of Marks: generally trying to be a Mk I, but with a narrow cab and a Mk V roof turret.

Okay, I sat through the whole thing and I tried to take notes from the 'facts' which were spouted off.
I gave up, honestly just awful.
The commentary and stock footage was very very poor and the logic of making it the size they did is utterly lost on me.
The History channel is basically irredeemably bad

I wasted an hour of my time watching these hacks build a partial Seehund mockup for a Tampa museum. I'd hate to think what they'd do to the Mk V.

Men died through inhaling the diesel fumes from the six-cylinder Holt engine because these machines designed by Ernest Swinton had no exhaust? No way! OMG, that is so awesome! I better put that on Wikipedia!
