Mixing and matching

At last I finally managed to get my hands on the Modeltrans supply set. Its a good set pity that the cab was poorly moulded and was disguarded. In the end it was a case of mix and match of three sets.

1. the Masterbox MkII was converted to a supply tank with Emhar tracks, and the Modeltrans conversion set as the sponsons fitted so well

2. the Emhar MkIV female recieved the spudded tracks and Lewis guns from the Masterbox.

3. The Airfix male recieved sponsons, anti grenade netting from Masterbox products and the roof from the Modeltrans conversion set. The actual netting  is the fine plastic netting you get with bunches of flowers.

All the decals were my own - next time it would be best to buy them!

I like the way you mix the parts!
Why do you choose the airfix offer against the asterbox MarkI?

I used the same mixing technique with the Strelet heavy artillery sets to get several different models including the WW2 6" gun back to late WW1 .

The orginal idea was to use the 1/76 Modeltrans supply set for the Airfix model . However the supply sponsons fitted perfectly  both the Emhar female MkIV and the Masterbox female MkII  models that I already had.

I have always wanted to build a more accurate MkIV with spudded tracks and Lewis guns using the Emhar model as the basis.  Rather than getting The Matador track set this was the obvious solution with the added bonus of the 4 Lewis guns.

This left the Masterbox MkII without the right tracks and Lewis guns, but what was left was ideal for making a MKI supply . I like the open ports at the front and it over came the raised hatch present on the Airfix - although the Modeltrans roof would overcome this problem.

Once the Supply tank and the Female were built there were lots of bits left including an accurate roof and all the Masterbox bits to get a reasonable Airfix model. I find the nylon thinner ,already black.

As for decals I like a challenge and wanted to have some models with unique decals (I also have a MkII male Charlie Chaplin  and MkIV Friar Tuck)  . What I found was that they were a little thick but that is the price for wanting different names!

Now for a real challenge build the 2 new Strelet artillery pieces!confuse

They mix well, RCD. I am surprised by that; in the past I've found the Matador 1/76 sponsons to be too small for the 1/72 Emhar. But who needs Matador any more!

How are the Strelets guns going?!
