Finally, my absolute favorite tank: "Hedi" in 1/35 scale! What a strange vehicle - something between "What if..." and "WWI 1919".

And it takes courage to decide to bring out such that exotic Freikorps-vehicle, that has been researched very little up to now and because of the sorry state of the sources: only a few photos, nothing more. So, any attempt to bring out a more or less exact model is an interpretation of the quite often blurry pictures published in various books.

So far, so good!  Nevertheless  I still have the impression that the project has been drawn up in a hurry and this may be seen, among other things from various details. I am aware that no company can afford endless researches, but a little more effort in researching the subject would help to avoid mistakes. Please note, this is just my personal impression!

Immediately after MENG's announcement to bring out the A7V  tank in 1/35 I started my own drawings of the Freikorps-Hedi. Here my interpretation of what I believe to see in all the information I have (12 pictures).  The drawings aren't finished yet - furthermore  I had to redo them more then ten times until all fits together in each of the three-view drawing. Here some examples

 MG-bay:

Side view with Skull and Kokampf-plate:

My interpretation of the roof  gratings

Hedi-emblem:

It's a pity I couln't finish my drawings earlier, maybe one or the other producer could have made use of them, and  "my" Hedi  would be much simpler to realise ...

Cheers, Peter

Peter T - besides the roof grating louvers - what other discrepancies do you see? I want to purchase the kit but would be interested in your opinions.

One item I know that I would have to fix are the MG shields. The kit's are just outlines for the full range of movement. I would use the outline as a guide to remove the material and then make new shields from styrene.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob

Well, It's hard to say, as only can judge from what I see on Panzershops facebook site. In principle it seems like an enlarged version of RetroTracks 1/76 Hedi. Basic shapes seem to be allright; but as for the MG-towers, I have quite a different interpretation of how they should look. Yes, to me they look wrong, too small in diameter - something difficult  to improve.

The so called MG shields, were in fact only two, diagonally arranged. The other two were initially planned for the Blinkgeräte. The openings aren't as wide as in the kit.

The two cupolas appear to me very clumsy too. But there should be no problem to change that.

Most important of all: As a rivet counter, I would sand off all wrong rivets and replace them.

But, as I wrote before: Any attempt to bring out a more or less exact "Hedi" is an interpretation of blurry pictures published in various books, and I give a great deal of credit for that interesting subject.

All the best,

Peter

Very interesting drawings!

I'm an Heiholic too with 2 or 3 old Tauro models used in different attemps to eventually built something I can be happy with...
An endless work.

As far i can see on the pics from Panzershop, the model is not very convincing to me...

Peter T and Lostiznaos,

Thanks for your details and comments.  I will not be purchasing this kit.  Hopefully, Meng will release their version of Hedi based on their A7V kit.

Both of your responses are greatly appreciated.

Rob
