A larger version shows the caption: Mit ihren Waffen kehren die Ost-Afrika-Kämpfer in die Heimat zurück. "The East Africa troops return to the homeland with their weapons."

Bei der Begrüßung des Generals Lettow-Vorbeck, der mit den Resten der deutsch-ostafrikanischen Schutztruppe am 2. März 1919 unter dem Jubel Zehntausender durch das Brandenburger Tor über den Pariser Platz in Berlin einmarschierte.

At the welcoming ceremony for General Lettow Vorbeck, who marched with the remnants of the German East Africa Protection Force through the Brandenburg Gate on the Pariser Platz in Berlin, on 2 March 1919, to the cheers of tens of thousands.

Here's something that might interest and surprise. Lettow-Vorbeck brought several Askaris back to Germany to help to support the post-War government. Here's one of them:

That guy is not only an Askari-Schausch (sergeant), he's also a Freikorps fighter. See emblem of Garde-Kavallerie-Schützen-Division/Korps on collar.
