planning aftermarket sets for Takom MK I
Permalink

100_5532.JPGHello. My name is Karl Van Sweden and I make masters for The New TMD. I am a fan of the WW I land ships though never got very interested in them until now. I usually build 1/35th scale and now with these new kits coming am getting real interested again. I am interested in doing some corrections for the MK I kit just released by Takom. I have the Female kit and see there are some issues as listed in earlier post. I would like to do a master for the drivers/co-drivers cab and other parts. I have the front visors for the MK IV master almost done. These will be usable for the MK I too I see. Would any one here be willing to help me out on what needs doing. I see the cab front and rear need to be widened by 3mm on each side if I understand that correctly. Do you think the openings for the visors would be in the same place as depicted in the Takom kit or is this where the 3mm should be added. If you would please e-mail me direct at chislet26e4@hotmail.com. This would be easier for me. Thank you.

Hi Karl,
The MK IV visor doesn't work on Mk I because it has a bottom bolted reiforcement. Look at part C26 and V7 for difference.
I suggest you to convert visor from Tamiya Mk IV since their come in two parts, they are easy to rework and they fit the Takom model (I done this four times).
I suggest also a new rear observation hatch since Takom's is a little small, Tamiya again is OK.

Ask Helen for any question on Mk I. She knows well this tank

Thank you. I have both the MK IV and MK I kits so have plenty to make both. I have the rear hatch measurements coming so that will be with the front visors for the MK IV. Will do on contacting Helen. again thanks very much for the info and quick response.

Karl.

Well now that's an easy request and will help add to a set that needs some items. This will be the MK IV set but they will also be added to the MK I set or even a separate set. So far the MK IV set will include the new visors, a new exhaust part, the rear body plate with a door that can be positioned in the open position, a corrected top hatch possibly with cupola, and these tow eyes. Thanks for the input.

No probs If its a wish list then the some damaged track spuds would be nice to, all the ones that come with kits are 'factory new' when in realitey they prob get bent up and twisted a bit the first time the tank went for a stroll, look forward to your up & coming products
