Santa got me the Haynes owners manual for the MK IV, good Santa :)
Theres one photo in there of a tank being unloaded from its rail transport. Basically 4 big jacks lifting the tank up so that the wagon can be moved away from under it. Would make a great diorama but I can't find any good pics of the jacks. Any suggestions please?
You are, I trust, aware that those are Germans in the photo? I'm not sure that the British used such jacks. From memory the Tankograd Beutepanzer books confirm that the jacks were a German idea, but I can't lay my hands on them at the moment
.
Ah ok wasnt sure but thought possibly German, cheers.
Would still make a great dio :)
Must be post battle recoveries as the tank ahead is nissing tracks etc.
Back ends of the tanks must have been on blocks on the wagons to get that big lifting beam under.
Glad you like the book - got mine a couple of weeks ago and am quite disappointed with it.
The front cover shows a (largely) EMHAR model, complete with the unditching beam rails the wrong size and the wrong way round, together with incorrect connection points and the later stiffeners going right through to the tracks.
Someone else has already commented on the 6 pdrs, so all in all I found it not very good with little, if any new information and will have to sell it to some sucker!!!
Cracking topic T140, would be a dio to die for, something a bit different thats for sure (I too have the Mk IV Haynes book, I am thinking of the Tommie one to go next to it )

I have a suitable length of track already i can use, but would need a wider base. A flatbed railcar is readily available so if i can suss out jacks that look reasonable it would work.
I like the "dollies" that the men are gathered around. Presumeably used with that traction engine for hailing disabled tanks.
