Has anyone seen any first-person accounts from British or French tank crews whose tank was struck by German anti-tank rifle fire during the 1918 fighting?
I get the impression that Allied tank crews were not very impressed by the anti-tank rifles, but I have yet to see any detailed accounts.
Hello
I saw something in a French JMO ( Journal des marches d operations)
That was Schneider tanks with hits from anti tank rifles as far as I remember
I will try to find ...do not remember which JMO...
Best regards
Olivier
In the JMO of 501 regiment d artillerie d'assaut . on 28 September :
" Les allemands resistent energiquement utilisant les bois pour masquer un grand nombre de fusils et de canons anti chars....les pertes sont importantes et la progression peu accentuee..."
"The germans are resisting energetically using the woods to hide a large number of rifles and anti tank guns .... losses are significant and little progress accentuated ..."
No personal account but the JMO is mentioning the difficulties of the French chars in front of the anti tank weapons.

In the JMO of AS 310
25 October 1918
"trois chars perces par balles de fusil anti tank "
So three chars perforated by bullets from anti tank rifle.
The JMO do not describe about the human losses.
Germans were using the anti tank rifle !

In the JMO of AS 311 ( Chars FT )
On 25 October 1918 the marechal des logis Gillot ( Jillot ? ) is killed in his tank by a bullet from an anti tank rifle.
Same day as previous post , another mention of the tankgewehr versus French tanks.
For the ones who want to see the beast fired : www.youtube.com/watch

Hello This is neither related to anti tank rifles , neither WW1 Your movie is related to a Sherman and a Grant tank of French Free Forces ( French Army ) during WW2 A little story about this movie : When I was a kid , already making tank models ..., my grandfather ( French Free Forces ), when I was asking about how it was in a tank... was telling me ( He witnessed tank crews killed in their tanks) : " c est pas beau a voir" (" it is not nice" to see) without more conversation. At that time I did not understood... Anyway let's go back to the subject Mr Zaloga is looking for accounts of tank crews related to anti tank rifles Best Regards Olivier
