US Army training tank photos

Several Mark IV tanks (4616, 4624, 4629, 4630, 4633, 4634, 4636, 4639, 4642, 4646) were sent to America 5th November 1918 from Newbury to serve as training vehicles of the US Army Tank Corps. 4633 is under restoration at Fort Benning.

Do you have photos of any of the others (not 4633)? This screen capture from a film is the only one I know of. It shows 4642 in 1919 in the USA

Your list of Mark IVs sent to the USA is incomplete. I have a photo of US troops with an unidentified Mark IV Female which is probably one of the ones exported, but which it is I do not know.

I agree the tank in the photo is 4642. It is a still from a film.

I understand you have some books forthcoming. Are you asking in connection with these?

I totally agree the list may be wrong. I would like to identify this Female mark IV at Camp Upton, NY, USA. Both photos from the Fort Benning Archives

That tank is 'Britannia', the Mark IV shipped to New York in November 1917 and used to tour the USA and Canada in support of recruiting efforts as well as the sale of US War Bonds. Nothing to do with the Mark IVs supplied at the end of the war.

You will find the film on Critical Past. No time to look it up now as I need a nap - have to catch the early morning ferry to Ireland.
