HMLS Canada is Mk.I, not Mk.II. This is visible by number 521 and wide driver's cab.

In this case (and others) is the Mk I tank a "hand me down" from the British army to the Canadian army ? Did the British army get the MK IV tanks, so they gave away their older-earlier variants ?

Some confusion here. HMLS Canada is not a tank in Canadian Army service. It belonged to C Battalion, Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps.

If this photo was taken in Jun 1917, it is interesting that Canada had not been re-fitted with a Lewis gun mounting in place of the original Hotchkiss commander's machine gun
