I'm building a MarkIV and want to show it bogged down during the battle of Ypres, but looking at the pics I've found, I cannot seen any markings on the tanks, even serial numbers...
Remember that the markings on Mark IVs changed significantly between Messines and Third Ypres! By Third Ypres the system of giving tanks names beginning with the Battalion letter had been introduced replacing the haphazard names given to some tanks at Messines.
Serial numbers were often covered by mud but numbers starting 20 for Male tanks and 27 or 28 for Female would be typical for the opening days of Third Ypres.
Thank you very much!
I will post my model (allready in progress) as soon as possible in the modelling section.
Regarding the third battle of Ypres, I've a dozen of pics, none shows any markings on the tanks.
This is Mark IV Female 2510 Conqueror C47. The crew number is painted on the front horns and cab roof. Of course the tank you're modelling is Gina, so pics of a C Battalion tank may not be much help. G Battalion isn't one of the better documented Battalions. Your picture of Gina is the only one I can think of showing tanks of this Battalion in the Salient. Assuming that their tanks at Third Ypres were painted like theirs at Cambrai, there would be a small white name painted on each horn.
Thanks a lot for the pics and precisions on G bat. As I cannot see any markings on the pics, I Don't know yet if I'll had serail number and name on the model.
