Hello all Great War-specialists
I'm currently researching the possibility to build some 1:35 French Pechot-railway wagons loaded with 370 mm. shells. I will have the shells cast for me in resin and need some information on their measurements. I have some information at the moment, but would like more. Does any of you have info on these shells? Measurements or photos? Perhaps even some info on the the 370-mortar?


I have attached a drawing from a book on French artillery railways by Christian Cenac to give you an idea of my modelling project.


I have learned much from this forum and hope to hear from you.

Is that the mortier 370mm filloux, the rather brutal looking stubby monster? If so, I suspect that Tim Rigsby may be able to help, as I'm sure he started scratchbuilding one. However, I know for a fact that he's travelling at the moment, so he won't have access to all his material at home for a while. If you can wait a bit, I'm sure he'll reappear at some point!

I'm sure it's the same piece. The 370 was heavily dependant on the 600 mm. artillery railways. Both for transport and assembly of the mortar as well as for transport and handling of it's shells. In that view the mortar itself would be an interesting modelling subject for me as well.


As I plan to have the shells cast in resin maybe Tim would be interested in a few as well?


...If I can wait? I'm good at waiting. You have to be when you model WWI. What happened to the Emhar Schneider CA1 in 1:35?!

Hello Claus


 Roger is correct, I have been building a French mortier 370mm filloux in 1/32 scale, I have some drawings of the shells, but unfortunately they are not to scale,   I have been approximating. I do on the other hand have some information on the shells that might come in handy. Size etc., I will look it up and post it for you. Give me a few days, as I am always running behind, and as Roger stated I am coming off vacation (Holiday)

Hello everybody,
I hope that I can help. I found some picture of 370mm french mortar Filloux and his projectiles.
First projectile is long HE shell, second one is HE shell with a wind shield, and last one is the armoured projectile.
On the second projectile we can see a socket for fuze (see detailed picture). This socket protected fuse at impact.
In the photo there are railway wagon with shells.

Hi Pavel
Thanks a lot for the information. Nice drawings and measurements. Even a photo of the 370 that I didn't know of previously. Is the breech damaged on the mortar closest to the photographer?


I have been on vacation for a week and returning home and seeing your great references makes me want to get on with my project.


I have some photos of one of these mortars being assembled. I will post those when I get them scanned.
