Hello,

I am researching German trench mortars (yes, strictly speaking they are not artillery) and am looking for a copy of this French Army manual - Ministère de la Guerre: Notes sur les engins de tranchées allemands, Septembre 1916.

Does anyone have it and is willing to share?

Regards,

Marc

Hi Marc,

It seems to be available on Google books...

https://books.google.nl/books/about/Minist%C3%A8re_de_la_Guerre_Artillerie_Note.html?id=7zlvXwAACAAJ&redir_esc=y

With kind regards,

-Arie.

Maybe. But I have heard the "price" of assistance from him is high.

Perhaps it's worth asking on the French 14-18 forum?

https://forum.pages14-18.com/viewforum.php?f=4

It is possible to ask in English but I usually provide a machine translation in French as well.

I did check on the Gallica archive (gallica.bnf.fr) but the manual doesn't seem to be there - not that I trust the Gallica search engine...

Regards,

Charlie

Any particular reason why you want this manual?, the reason why I ask is its most likely the infomation in it would have been published by the US war department as they translated a lot of french stuff as you probably know, that said the only US manual I have come across that includes german trench morters is:

Manual for trench artillery, United States Army (provisional). Part I, trench artillery.

and I would be suprised if it didn't include the info from the french notes.

Ironsides - Thank for the link to the US manual. It looks good, but I think the French manual may have in-depth information about the equipment used with the German minenwerfers.

Druid Ian - I hope your effort on the British Ordnance Collectors Network pays off.

Marc
