Awesome, I assume 1/72 scale?!

Is it a cast, or 3D printed?

All the best

Hi Tim,

Again, you assume right.. smile

It is indeed 1/72 and it is a 3D print. Not completely finished, but nearly.

With kind regards,

-Arie.

So I am assuming with a little know how, they can be scaled to 1/35 scale?

By the way the level of detail is amazing, like your drawings....

All the best

Hi Tim,

Yep, just print at 51.43% and you get one in 1/35 or 56.25% for 1/32...

With kind regards,

-Arie.

Very impressive model. Couple of questions on the original mörser....

How did you get the breech open? - there's no lever on the breech block

Any idea what this mörser used for obturation? - the later M10 mörsers used cartridge cases - this one?

Had any thoughts about modelling the unique barrel transport cart?

Regards,

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Good question! The lever was removed after loading, because with the lever the barrel doesn't fit the carriage. The breech has holes, one of these should hold the lever. Unfortunately, I have not yet found any pictures of the type of lever used.

As for the cartridge casings, I always assumed that the two brown things that were on the barrel transport cart were the casings, but I am not sure..

'Had any thoughts about modelling the unique barrel transport cart?' Well, yes: My thoughts were: Bloody hell, that would be difficult to draw... biggrin So I have no plans to draw this one yet, but I must admit, it is a very interesting vehicle..

With kind regards,

-Arie.

Couple of images of the top of the barrel of a 21cm Morser at Brussels. This one has the Prussian cipher as well as the Kaiser Wilhelm II cipher.

That would be a challenge for 3D printing.

Regards,

Charlie

...I think it would be a challenge for the draftsman, not the printer... smile

That's interesting - it seems to have a captive screw on the top of breech which moves the breech and a locking screw.

The technology is a mixture between the 1880s breeches where there was a locking screw and a T-shaped lever to manually

pull and push the breech block and the 1900s style with a captive screw in the top of the breech where the breech was unlocked and moved

with one lever (the early 75mm Krupp export guns had this).

Regards,

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

I never realised that the breach was opened in two stages, thanks for pointing that out! That the technology is a mixture of 1880's and 1900's technology is no surprise. The barrel is from 1899, so snugly fits both periods...

With kind regards,

-Arie.
