Anyone know this tank designer?

Came across the American engineer Emil Francis Norelius who apparently worked for Holt during WW1 and designed or significantly contributed to the design

of the 1918 Holt SPGs. He also designed the M1921 Medium tank which incorporated some of the design features of the British Medium D.

Anyone else heard of this guy or know more about his work?

I suspect I may have picked up one or two of his patents as the name rings a bell, in anycase theres 16 google patents listed, mostly with no images, and 10 on the EPO site largely tractors or related from what I can see, some at least have no mention of Holt:

EPO is easier to view,If the link fails to show search results just drop the name in the seach window at the top of the page...

Edit: just checked again and theres way more under Emil Norelius including several tanks and SPGs.

I hadn't heard of him, but this lengthy and seemingly well-informed article appears to be helpful. Lots of refs to Philip Johnson in it.

The article was originally written by Yuri Pasholok, I think.

There are a couple of errors in it, that is, if you take Hunnicutt as the stone tablet standard.

There were two tanks - an M1921 which was a mostly conventional design and an M1922 which had the design

elements of the Medium D. The M1922 is the one rotting away at Anniston.

The patents mark out the career progression of Mr Norelius. He was at Holt for most of WW1 and then moved to the Rock Island Arsenal

after WW1. In the 1930s he moved again to Allis-Chambers.

The patents gave me a side view of the Holt Mark IX SPG fitted with an 8inch howitzer. Information on the Mark IX and Mark X SPGs

is very scarce.
