Greetings all. I just completed the design and build of a 1/72 scale paper model of the Holt 150 Ton Field Monitor, and I thought I'd share some photos with the group. For reference I used the side view illustrations of the vehicle from an article I found in one of the Landships forums. I also took some design queues from photos of a scratch built plastic model from a British modeling website that are available online. Any contemporary drawings and/or models of the machine are just interpretations of the scant writings and proposed specifications for the vehicle. I don't believe any "official" blueprints or drawings exist.
I don't have design software, so this entire model was generated using Photoshop 7.0 and a 7"/180mm plastic ruler. B&W "alpha" parts pages were assembled and tweaked where necessary. When I was satisfied with the fit, I used Photoshop to texture the model. I chose a khaki color overall since, if the vehicle was actually built, it would have been deployed in the southwestern USA and northern Mexico. I imagined a light source from overhead and slightly to the front when rendering highlights on rivets, panel separations, and edge coloring. The most labor-intensive part of the model were the wheels, each one built up from 93 individual pieces of paper. As always when working with the limitations of paper as a medium, some loss of fidelity will be apparent to the knowledgeable viewer.
That is awesome. I can't believe the size of that thing compared to the figures of the same scale. This kind of reminds of the Tsar Tank in size but not look. Thanks for taking the time to research, design, build and post this beast to the site. I know it takes a lot of time and perseverance to do something like this.
