Mephisto's Compass Donation
Permalink

Our very kind Australian friend Damien Fagen has sent us this story of Mephisto's compass being handed to the Queensland Museum.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCqav31U72s&t=113s

He says, "The story is simplified a bit for our audience. The reaction has been quite staggering as it has appeared on TV news programs and national newspapers resulting in dozens of enquiries. We are about to do an ultraviolet inspection of the inside of Mephisto which will hopefully reveal some of the pencilled on signatures of WWI troops who signed it, and of course later graffiti. We have found some more pieces of Mephisto in the collection which I will be inspecting in a couple of weeks."

The compass from Mephisto will be installed in a case in the Queensland Museum Anzac Legacy next to Mephisto during the next few days. I am still waiting to find out more on the manufacturer's marks inside the compass bowl. Hopefully i will have some more Mephisto news to share in the next couple of weeks as well.
